Shower Water

Waking up late for work on a cold morning in January, I jump out of bed, run to the bathroom to take a shower. I turn the hot water shower. While waiting for the shower to warm up I use the toilet. Which is my typical routine. I am now undressed and jump into shower. OH MY! I rip the suction cup soap dish off the wall and the shower curtain also came with me as I violently scampered to get out of the freezing water coming from my shower head. I then sat there hunched over chattering my teeth for a bit. Then I extend my hand under the bathroom faucet.

As I extended my hand I truly felt like beggar in the middle of winter with my teeth chattering and my hand shivering draped in whatever would keep my warm. As I put my hand under the faucet my fingers were stung with more cold water. Great! No warm water.

Which means no shower, no clean teeth, my daily routine has been ruined. My day will be terrible! I am already freezing. I decided to put on my robe. Yeah I don't really use robes but I get them for Christmas every year and hang them behind my door. Well this was the perfect opportunity to use a robe I thought. I also thought to myself it would be really cool if I had one of the sleeping hats from back in the day. Anyways I make my way down the stairs to hot water heater in the basement. When I reach the basement, and realize I know nothing about hot water heaters. I call my plumber to ask for some guidance. I also tell him to send someone over as soon as possible. The plumber told me to find boiling water from the bottom of the hot water tank. Then told me to close the main valve. That's as far as I got when I decided to call into work.

I reported to the office that I will be late and I am waiting for a plumber. While waiting for a plumber I realized first that I knew nothing about how most of the appliances in my house that are necessary for my daily function actually work. Then I thought to myself while some what buzzed from daily dose of morning caffeine, that the inventions that surround me today. Were not available 20 to 100 years ago. It is truly amazing. I could not imagine not being able to flush my toilet and not have to worry about the remains.

I couldn't even fathom the fact that not too long ago that personal temperature adjusting showers were not existent. I mean some of the people I work with already smell. I can not even begin to think what my office would smell like without most people taking their routine showers. How could I leave out most important factor of the shower, soap and shampoo. These wonderful shower advancements kill bacteria, fungus, lice and all types of nasty things.

I could keep going but I am truly appreciative of the small but yet wonderful and essential advancements that make my life a lot easier. Which brings to me to my next point. All of the creature comforts I previously mentioned are not possible without clean water. One of earth's greatest resources. Try to think about a day were you don't use water. It is most likely impossible. Therefore lets do our best job to conserve what we have. Fresh water is becoming more scarce around the globe. Try your best to be more conscious of your water usage. It will help us all.
